Dulwich Hill FC & Marrickville Red Devils FC Skills Squad & Academy 2008

We have joined forces with Dulwich Hill FC to provide a development pathway into the NSW Youth League for our older players. Marrickville will become the official feeder club for Dulwich Hill FC and in addition will host extra training for 'squad' (8-10yr olds) or 'academy' players (11-12yr olds).

2008 training for squads to be advised.

Joining the Skills Squad or Academy requires being selected at a trial and paying a fee - $550 for Squad and $770 for Academy. You also must commit to increased training.

The coaching staff for the Under 8's 9's and 10's skills squad have been announced and are as follows:

Mark Strachan - Dulwich Hill 1st Grade coach.

Mark currently holds a NSW State Licence and AFC B Certificate and has successfully completed part A of the first ever AFC A Certificate to be run in Australia earlier this year at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

Harry James - Dulwich Hill 1st Grade captain.

Harry is a former Australian Schoolboy International and graced the old National Soccer League over a six year period with Newcastle Breakers, Canberra Cosmos and Sydney Olympic.

Norman Tome - Dulwich Hill 1st grade top goalscorer from 2007.

Norman has a wealth of experience as a former Australian Olympic Team International representing the country with distinction on almost 30 occasions. He was a valued member of Sydney Olympic and Marconi in the old National Soccer League for 9 years. Norman was awarded the NSW Division 1 State League player of the year at the Football NSW awards night on October 12th.

Each age group will be rotated on a weekly basis and will receive instruction from each of the three coaches.

An announcement of the coaches for the Academy teams for the Under 11's and 12's will be made in the near future.

Sydney Airport has donated $3,300 to our club this year. The extra funds are much appreciated as we didn't raise fees this year, but costs went up anyway.

In 2007, Marrickville Red Devils had over 700 players, 57 teams, 6 all female teams, and more than 102 volunteer coaches/managers. Marrickville FC is part of the Canterbury District Soccer Football Association (CDSFA), which has 28 teams across the inner west of Sydney.

Women

We support women's participation in soccer at any age. In 2007, we had 6 all female teams and several teams with a 50/50 composition. Some of the all female teams are playing in the mixed competition and some in the womens only competition. We hope to have an 035 women's team in 2008.

Junior Referee Scheme

We support junior referees to ref u6 to u9 games. Junior refs (and the spectators) are supervised by a club official/groundsman and paid by the home team. Junior Refs wear a yellow 'in Training" vest as part of the Department of Sport and Recreation "I'm in yellow, so don't see red!" initiative.
